New solid state amp is most affordable from US brand
The arrival of a new high-end solid-state amplifier from this renowned US audio brand is a major event and the K-300i is no exception – especially as it’s the most affordable way to taste Krell’s craftsmanship. Available in a choice of stylish black and silver (pictured) finishes, this amp is available in two variants – an analogue-only design (£4,698) with RCA/XLR inputs and a version with added digital inputs and streaming (£5,698).
Unsurprisingly, under the stunning minimal-look chassis, there’s a technological feast: for starters, the K-300i incorporates a newly developed amplifier circuit design with the latest version of iBias. The manufacturer boasts that this tech provides the sonic purity of Class A operation without the excessive heat and power consumption that’s associated with it. Also, Krell Current Mode topology with fully differential circuitry running from the input stage through to the last output gain stage ensures an extremely linear and extended frequency response, Krell claims.
A 770VA transformer is at the heart of the K-300i’s power supply, which aims to enable precise signal control and effortless dynamic range. Power output is rated at 150W per channel into 8ohm, doubling to 300W per channel into 4ohm.
The digital version has bonus features, which make impressive reading – its integrated high-end DAC section utilises an ESS Sabre Pro chipset, for example. It also includes UPnP network streaming and aptX Bluetooth connectivity, as well as optical, coaxial, USB and HDMI 2.0 digital inputs, and an HDMI output supporting 4K UHD with HDR – perfect for watching hi-def films with audiophile sound quality.
The digital K-300i supports a comprehensive selection of file formats and streaming platforms – including Spotify and Deezer – and can decode MQA files, too. A dedicated control app is also on hand for Android/iOS devices. The K-300i is available to buy now in the UK from distributor Absolute Sounds and you can find out more about it here.
