Pioneer in Japan have just announced the TAD-D600 no-compromise SACD/CD player, designed by their high-end Technical Audio Devices Laboratories division in Japan.
Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit DACs are synchronised by a master clock which has been designed to reduce jitter to ultra-low levels and which runs from an extremely low noise supply rail. Supply noise is further lowered through the use of switch-driven controls rather than soft-touch logic, whose ICs require their own oscillator.
The current-to-voltage conversion and analogue output stages are both built from discrete components, with TAD claiming a signal-to-noise ratio of 115dB and a slew rate of 120V/uS for the latter with its balanced and unbalanced socketry.
In order to minimise the impact of vibration and stray magnetic fields from the power supply, it’s located in its own 13kg cast aluminium external enclosure, which also houses the 400VA toroidal transformer. The replay and conversion sections sit inside the main 26kg case, which is constructed with a two-layer chassis of 6mm thick copper-plated steel to damp out vibration and lower the centre of gravity.
The TAD-D600 is due for release in late January 2010 at a price of around 2.6 million Yen (19,400 Euros).
